The Mission of Master’s Academy of Fine Arts

for the Visual and Performing Arts (7th-8th grade)

also known as Masterkey Academy

Masterkey Academy provides a transition period for our students between Master’s Academy of Fine Arts (ages 4-11) and more serious, specialized studies in Portfolio Academy for high school students.

Masterkey Academy offers classes to students who desire to further their exploration of the fine arts and want to become familiar with the basic skills in drama, art, and/or music.  These classes are unrelated to the progression of eras which Master’s Academy explores.  Masterkey Academy consists of two Tracks: Track A and Track B.

All Masterkey Academy students will be required to take the Arts History class both semesters.  The Arts History class covers the major accomplishments made in the fine arts during a specific time period as well as taking a look at the different worldviews that affected the fine arts during each time period: Ancient, Medieval/Renaissance/ Baroque, Classical/Romantic, Modern .  It is our desire to prepare students not only in their area of giftedness, but also to help that student lay a firm Biblical and Christian worldview of the arts.  Our minds should be filled with God’s ideas before interacting with the culture….thus enabling us to have interaction with the culture and not be accommodating.  This approach is what sets Masterkey Academy apart from other arts programs and insures a safe and appropriate environment for arts instruction.  For 2009-2010, the Arts History class will be studying Medieval/Renaissance/ Baroque time periods.

Track A.  7th grade students will be attending four classes:  Arts History, foundational Art class, foundational Music class, and foundational Theater class.  Each one of these foundational classes that the students attend will focus on developing the basic skills in art, music, and theater.
